Ever wandered what it’s like to step inside a narrowboat?
At Marine Cruises, we offer canal holidays for all the family at competitive prices. Currently we have 5 classes on our roster with the option to depart from Swanley (on the Llangollen canal) or at the foot of the Falkirk Wheel (between Glasgow and Edinburgh) both offering jaw dropping engineering.
Let’s step inside and see what you can expect on board one of our signature 4-6 berth boats.
This is Kimberley – have you seen her?
Kimberley can sleep up to six in three double beds, including the optional one in the lounge. Alternatively, the double in the rear bed cabin can be made up as two singles.
As you can see from the plans, she is very well equipped with two-bathroom areas, one with shower, spacious lounge and plenty of wardrobe/cupboard space.
Our boats are literally a moving home from home with full central heating (including radiators and an airing cupboard), a TV/ DVD player, a Radio/ CD player, a 4-ring cooker/ oven/ grill, a Fridge/ Freezer combo and plug points for any electronic devices with full size shower, 140-gallon water tank and macerator toilets.
Do I depart from Swanley or Falkirk?
The highlight of departing from Swanley and cruising the Llangollen canal for many are its aqueducts, recently awarded World Heritage Centre status. Chirk aqueduct is a sturdy stone-built construction with ten masonry arches, but at Pontcysyllte the cast iron trough that contains the water is carried on narrow stone piers 126 feet above the River Dee. The structure was built by Thomas Telford in 1795 and took 10 years to complete. The views are often, literally, breath-taking!
The reopening in 2002 of the deep and wide Scottish Lowland Canals part funded by Millennium Commission has revived a 69-mile waterway route running from Glasgow to Edinburgh and the Irish Sea to the North Sea. The canals had been derelict for over 40 years, but now open beautiful scenic routes for lucky boaters. You can cruise in either direction from our ideally situated base at the foot of the stunning Falkirk Wheel to reach Glasgow or Edinburgh.
